Chartered Institute of Linguists Hong Kong Society (CIoLHKS)

The Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) is UK's only national and international body serving professional linguists (translators, interpreters, language educationalists and those in business, the professions and government). Founded in 1910, CIOL is now the leading language professional body in UK and one of the most significant language institutions in the world. The Hong Kong Society of CIOL (CIoLHKS) was established in 1984. It is committed to promoting professional use of languages in Hong Kong. It organizes professional development functions for local members and the public, and publishes a newsletter and an academic journal. The Hong Kong Society is now the biggest regional society of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.

Department of English Language & Literature, Hong Kong Shue Yan University

Shue Yan is the first private university in Hong Kong. The Department of English Language and Literature was established at the inception of the Shue Yan College in 1971. The four-year, full time honours degree programme which leads to a Bachelor of Arts in English was launched in September 2005. There are four strands in the Honours Degree Programme: English Literature, Linguistics, Translation and Cultural Studies. Students will be introduced to the four strands in their four-year study.

The School is also dedicated to developing quality and innovative learning processes, as well as fostering knowledge, competence and team spirit in achieving holistic education.

School of Education and Languages, The Open University of Hong Kong

The School of Education and Languages of The Open University of Hong Kong aims to contribute to

      -initial teacher education and the professional development of teachers in Hong Kong;

      -language education for teachers;

      -early childhood education including special educational needs in ECE; 

      -enhancing the language proficiency of students in the OUHK.

The School offers about 40 programmes leading to the award of qualifications from the sub-degree level to the doctoral level.
